CBR 2030 High performance Electromagnetic Mars Actuator

Starsys has developed a High performance mars Actuator using a compact planetary/harmonic gearbox. It was originally developed for pan and tilt mechanisms on the APEX Mars Lander.

Features
• Designed to support combined Axial, Radial and Moment Loads
• 440C Stainless Steel ABEC 7 Ball Bearings
• Stainless Steel Zero Backlash Modified Harmonic Drive Assembly
• All Titanium Construction
• Overall Gear Ratio: 907:67:1
•No Load Output Speed: 5.5 rpm
•Maximum Output Torque: 40 in-lb (4.5 N-m)
• Weight: 10.2 ounces (290 g)

Options
• Anti-backlash output spur gear set
• One or two stage planetary gearbox
• Size 14 or 20 Harmonic Drive
• Alternative input motors

Driven by a bruch motor with encoder telemetry, this robust gearbox has been designed for high ratio and performance in a compact package.

By using an efficient two-stage planetary gearbox between the motor and the harmonic drive, the internal torque margins are increased to produce a reliable, low temperature actuator.

The output shaft is provided with an anti-backlash spur gear set to provide accurage pointing.

Possible Applications
• Camera pointing mechanisms
• Solar Array drives
• Deployment systems
• Thruster gimbal applications
• Robotics applications
• Antenna pointing mechanisms
